NEWPORT — Music, Origami and a play date are some of the things Create Arts Center is hosting this month.

The Front Rockers, who present music from the 1920s to 1990s, are performing at 6 p.m. March 18. Steve Sackett, Phil Kleinman, Rick Singer and Steve Simmons, who have decades of musical experience, will play “familiar” folk, jazz, rock and world music.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, with students getting in free.

David Budde is teaching Origami for St. Patrick’s Day from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. March 14. Each class is $15, and pre-registration is required at CREATE, 900 W. 4th St. in Newport, or online on its website at createarts.org.

Clare Clark’s Creative Play Date for ages 8 to 12 is returning from 3 to 4:30 p.m. March 19. This class is free and sponsored by the Kalispel Tribe of Indians. Pre-registration is also required.

DYW hosting St. Patty’s dance, fundraiser

PRIEST RIVER — The Distinguished Young Women of Priest River are hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Dance and Fundraiser.

The event will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 15 at Popeye’s Lounge, 80 Main St. in Priest River. It features music by DJ Brad of Webrix, appetizers, a photo area, a ticket to win a $500 “Staycation” basket and a green costume contest with a cash prize.

The Distinguished Young Women committee is sponsoring the event.

Tickets are $50 per couple and may be purchased at the door. Attendees must be 18 years old or older.

WSU Master Gardeners offer soils class

NEWPORT — Washington State University Master Gardeners are teaching a class about garden soils this month.

The class will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 13 at the WSU Extension Office, 277 S. Garden Ave. in Newport.

Topics include how soils form, their composition and their properties. The Master Gardeners are also discussing the role and importance of organic matter and biological activity in garden beds, as well as how to determine when various soil amendments such as compost and fertilizers are necessary to boost productivity and methods to apply them.

The class fee is $5, or $3 for Master Gardeners, and can be paid through PayPal or with cash, check or money order.
