Priest River boys out after loss to St. Maries
PRIEST RIVER — After a back-and-forth game, the Priest River Spartans boys basketball team lost 65-61 to St. Maries at home Wednesday night, Feb. 26. That eliminated them from the Central Idaho League district tournament, ending their season.
St. Maries was up 18-14 in the first quarter, before the Spartans made a comeback with a 20-18 second quarter and an 18-14 third quarter. They had a 52-50 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but were outscored by St. Maries 15-9 in the final period.
Senior Sawyer Staudt contributed nine points and four assists, and senior Carter Cook seven points and six rebounds. Priest River finished the season with an overall record of 14-6.
Swim Instructors, assistants needed
PRIEST RIVER — The Pend Oreille Rowing and Paddling Association and Long Bridge Swim Association are providing free swim and water safety lessons for the third year in a row this August at Riley Creek Recreation Area. A lead swim instructor and assistant swim instructors are needed to support this program. All instructors are paid positions.
Instructors are needed on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays, the weeks of Aug. 5, 12 and 19, from about 9 a.m.–3 p.m. each day. Paid training will be on Aug. 4.
PORA and LBSA are looking for people who know how to swim and help children feel safe and comfortable in the water. Lifeguard certification is not required.
Organizers say this is a great opportunity for students in the Priest River, Newport and Sandpoint areas.
Teens ages 13–17 are encouraged to apply as swim assistants. Training will be provided by the lead water safety swim instructor.
Without this assistance these free swim lessons may not be available to the community. Please send an email with your contact information or questions to [email protected] by March 20.
Contact Celia Thomas at 208 946-1229. Registration for swimming lessons will be open by April 1.
