Volunteers sought for North Idaho for trail projects

BOISE — Idaho Trails Association is looking for volunteers for this year’s trail projects.

The Association recently released its 2025 Volunteer Project Schedule, featuring over 80 trail maintenance projects across Idaho, including a number in North Idaho. Outdoor enthusiasts of all skill levels are invited to give back to their public lands by joining a volunteer trail crew and helping to maintain and restore Idaho’s incredible hiking trails.

ITA’s volunteer-led projects range from one-day outings to multi-day backcountry adventures in Idaho’s most remote wilderness areas. Volunteers can backpack, camp, or even travel by jet boat or plane to reach their projects, all while learning trail maintenance skills and working alongside a passionate outdoor community. ITA also has projects planned throughout Idaho as part of their Youth Trail Crew Program for ages 14–18, Women in the Wild Program and Veterans Program.

“This is our biggest project season yet,” says ITA Executive Director Melanie Vining.

No experience is required to volunteer. ITA provides the tools and training — volunteers just need a willingness to work hard and a love for the outdoors.

Here are a few upcoming North Idaho projects: Mickinnick Trail — June 7 (National Trails Day) People are invited to work on this scenic trail near Schweitzer Mountain to celebrate National Trails Day.

East Fork Boulder Creek Trail — June 21 This beautiful trail on the Bonner’s Ferry Ranger District needs our help, ITA announced.

Coeur d’ Alene River Trail — July 25–27 ITA’s first “Old Timer” project is for people 65 and older. This is a beautiful trail with National Recreation Trail status. People are invited to help improve it for hikers and equestrians.
