NEWPORT – The Newport Wrestling Club had 42 of its own wrestlers competing at the annual Jared Skiles Wrestling tournament in Newport Saturday, March 22. NWC hosted the event and welcomed six other schools and had just under 300 wrestlers in total. The Newport team racked up 46 pins, 11 technical falls and 24 athletes placing in the top three.
“It is always a pleasure to host this memorial tournament for such a deserving person, Jared Skiles,” coach Scott Pillers says. “We all feel the energy in the building once the tournament begins, from the youngest wrestlers to the eldest spectators.
“NWC would also like to thank all of the vendors that helped out this year to make our tournament extra special,” Pillers says. “We appreciate you all and hope you join us again next year.”
NWC also extended gratitude to Jared’s parents, Charles and Dawn Skiles for always showing up and helping support the event.
