A small group met at the Metaline Falls Town Hall on Sunday, March 9 to discuss events and improvements for the Town of Metaline Falls. Some time was spent on the history of past events and where current events in the town now stand. Included in this discussion were the Bigfoot Festival in June, Affair on 4th Avenue on Labor Day weekend and Deck the Falls on the first weekend in December.
The Bigfoot Festival is under the direction of PORTA, but the town has supported it since its inception. The event has become more of a tourist event rather than a meeting of Bigfoot enthusiasts, but the event does bring in many people, the mini-marathon race being a special draw. Parking will be the next issue that needs to be addressed.
The Affair on 4th Avenue is directed by the American Legion Post #144 — and has been growing since it began shortly after COVID. One of the big draws is the cornhole tournament, as well as some vendors, a small car show and lots of food and drink. This event is all about the presence of the American Legion in Metaline Falls and is very much appreciated.
Deck The Falls has several components. The parade and fireworks are directed by Shawn Bently and a group of volunteers — and this is very much appreciated. The events around the parade, and on Saturday and Sunday, are coordinated by The Cutter Theatre, its volunteers and town volunteers.
A great deal of time was spent on discussing the elf displays that are set up prior to Deck the Falls. The displays, its figures and décor all need loving attention, but finding volunteers and someone to head this has become problematic. Additional decorations, lights and displays were also discussed. Yes, a star will be added to the tree.
There was also discussion on other events and ideas for improvements to the town. Everyone at the meeting contributed, and another meeting will be set for May, when the elves will be taking priority.
Everyone is welcome to attend the Events and Improvement meeting for Metaline Falls.
