NEWPORT — A class on “Establishing a New Garden” by the Washington State University Master Gardeners is set for April 10 at Create Arts Center in Newport.
The Master Gardeners will discuss ideas and strategies tempered with local experience for undertaking the conversion of a lawn, pasture or weed patch into lush garden soil with minimal labor and maximum results.
The class, which starts at 6:30 p.m., begins with tips for choosing the best location for your garden, considerations such as defending against critters and limitations such as your budget. It will also cover multiple conversion methods, including quick and easy beds built on top of the existing ground to long-term ways to convert sod to soil. The class fee is $5 ($3 for Master Gardeners), and can be paid by cash, check, money order or through PayPal.
The class will take place at the Create Arts Center, located at 900 4th St. in Newport.
