COLVILLE — Newport’s Joelle Brandtner won first in the long jump and triple jump at the Ezra Gordon Invite Saturday, March 29. Her long jump of 15 feet, 1.25 inches was a personal record for her. Brandtner also won third in the 100-meter hurdles.
Dusty McDaniel took second in shot put with a 31-foot, 8-inch throw and fourth in the discus. Hailey Davison won third in triple jump.
Four Newport girls placed in eight events and won fifth in the 15-team Invite.
On the boys’ side, Rayben Jurgens won fourth in discus and fifth in the shot put, Damien Hamberg placed fifth in the high jump and fifth in the triple jump and Lucas Crosswhite took fifth in the 100-meter hurdles. The boys took seventh as a team.
Coach Levi Litowitz was happy with the results. “Our girls’ team did a great job team wide placing fifth,” he says. Between the boys and girls teams there were 40 personal records and some school records.
“This was our third meet, so our athletes are getting used to their events and we are starting to see them settle in and really perform,” Litowitz says.
Next up is the Glenn Wolf Invite, Friday April 4, at Deer Park High School, starting at 10:30 a.m.
