NEWPORT – The Family Crisis Network invites the community to a “powerful and inspiring” event, Empowered by Hope: An Evening with Hasan Davis, Wednesday, April 16, at 5:30 p.m. at Newport High School.
Hasan Davis, a former youth in the juvenile justice system who has transformed his life into a career in education, will share his personal journey and message of hope, resilience, and second chances. His compelling story highlights the importance of empowering youth and how fostering hope can significantly impact young lives.
This free event is a unique opportunity for parents, educators, and community members to come together and be inspired by Hasan’s message on the transformative power of support and hope for young people, according to a press release. A complimentary Longhorn BBQ dinner will be provided.

Free Passover chili and a movie
PRIEST RIVER – Trinity Baptist Church will host a free “Come One Come All” day dinner and movie Friday, April 18 at 6 p.m. Chili and other dishes are on the menu.
“Come and get refreshed with truth and love on the Good Friday, with great food and a first run movie,” a news release from Trinity Baptist Church invites. The movie “Woodlawn,” the true story of Woodland High School and the city of Birmingham, Alabama, will be shown on large screen format. The movie stars Sean Astin and Jon Voight.

Country-western duo to play at Cutter
METALINE FALLS — Country and western duo Clarence Gallagher and Dani Bacon are playing at the Cutter Theatre this week.
Their concert is at 7 p.m. April 12. Tickets are $20 and all K-12 students get in free. Reservations are suggested.
A companion dinner to the concert is at 6 p.m. and is also $20. Reservations for the dinner are required.

Learn plant based cooking at Priest River Library
PRIEST RIVER – Whether you are looking for plant based alternatives for health reasons, money saving reasons or to add some new recipes to your repertoire, learn Plant Based Cooking with Dawn Trammell at the Priest River Library Thursday, April 10 at 5 p.m.
Trammell will be demonstrating how to prepare a variety of healthy plant based proteins that even meat lovers will enjoy. There will be lots of taste testing and recipe ideas as well as great information.

Cutter to honor volunteers, hold annual meeting
METALINE FALLS — The Cutter Theatre is holding this week a Volunteer Appreciation Reception, followed by its Annual Membership Meeting.
The special reception is at 2 p.m. April 13 and honors the Cutter’s many volunteers. All volunteers and their families are welcome to attend the event, which is hosted by the Cutter Board of Directors.
Following the reception, Cutter is holding the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Cutter Theatre Board and Membership, which will review the annual report and vote on the upcoming budget, board membership and leadership. Executive director Stacy Pelkie and Board President Erin Kinney are conducting the meeting. All Cutter members are encouraged to attend.

Soroptimist meet and greet Thursday
NEWPORT — Soroptimist of Newport is holding a meet-and-greet event called “Uncorking Connections Social” at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 10 at the 74 Main Public House in Priest River.
People who are passionate about creating positive change and uplifting women in the community are invited to join members of the Newport chapter to learn more about Soroptimist’s mission — to empower and support women and girls in the Pend Oreille and Bonner County areas.
Light refreshments will be provided, and there will be a no-host bar available for those who wish to enjoy a drink.
