Some of the 1,000 or so riders go for the win in the many different 100- and 50-mile categories, but most are hoping to just finish the grueling desert course.

Bud Gott of Oldtown got competed in the 50–59-year-old category. He finished 122nd.
Jayson Maghan of Newport also rode in the 50–59-year-old division. He finished 137th.
In in the 70–79-year-old division, Leonard Gott of Spirit Lake came in tenth. Another Spirit Lake rider, Ethan Privitt, finished 23rd in the 250cc division, with Cameron Howell of Oldtown finishing 24th in the 250cc division.
The racecourse consists of a 50-mile course, with racers competing in the 100-mile contests making two laps, if they can. Racers who can’t complete the first lap by a certain deadline don’t run the second 50-miles.
The Desert 100 is the most challenging off-road race in the state. Started in 1969, the race has categories for riders of all abilities.
