Earth Day celebration by Friends of the Library
NEWPORT — Earth Day will be celebrated in downtown Newport from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26, hosted by the Newport Creative District and other sponsors. The Friends of The Library will be out front of the Newport Library, located at 116 S. Washington St., with books for all ages and packeted seeds saved from their gardens. There will be a variety of greens, root vegetables, herbs and flowers. Proceeds will fund events for all ages, books for toddlers, programming and Summer Reading prizes.
The Friends of the Pend Oreille County Library District’s purpose is to support literacy, opportunities for lifelong learning and personal growth. The Friends of POCLD is a not-for-profit 501(C)(3) established in 1976 that provides funding for programs, events and enrichment that support the Pend Oreille County Library District.
YES needs host homes
NEWPORT — Members of the community are invited to attend an open forum from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 to kick off the revival of the Youth Emergency Services Host Home Program in Pend Oreille County.
This will take place at the Oldtown Rotary Park Visitor Center, 68 Old Diamond Mill Rd. in Oldtown.
“We invite everyone to discover how to instill hope for the youth and young adults of Pend Oreille County ages 12–24 by opening our own doors and providing them with a safe space, a home, to live and to just be,” a Youth Emergency Services news release announced.
Participants can arrive before 5 p.m. to pick up an application and speak with staff regarding requirements for being a host home.

Summer workforce Program open
NEWPORT - NEW Health is launching the “Bridging the Gap” summer workforce program, an initiative aiming to introduce future employees to careers in rural communities. The first cohort will focus on four key disciplines, providing participants with invaluable exposure, and paid on the job experience. As part of the program, individuals will benefit from career exploration activities and essential employee development tools, including resume building, mock interviews, and professional standards workshops.
