Athletes take top spots in track, field
PRIEST RIVER Spartan track and field proved victorious hosts at the 28th annual Priest River Invite Saturday, April 19 when the boys’ team won the first-place trophy, and the girls finished second out of the nine teams competing.
“These outstanding team finishes were attained by having 27 of 31 athletes scoring points for the Spartans on Saturday,” coach Jared Hughes said.
Brayden Lamanna retained his winning streak, taking first place in the boys’ 1600-meter race with a time of 4:40.78. Carter Korff won second in the boys’ 100-meter with a time of 11.91. Gunnar Pettit took second and the 400-meter at 55.99.
Peyton Whitehead was sixth at 59.61. Doug Ezell and Daniel Gunkle finished fourth and fifth in the 800-meter with times of 2:16.70 and 2:17.70, respectively.
Gunkle finished 10th in the 1600-meter at 5:29.73.
Priest River also won the boys’ 4x100 relay race with a time of 46.58. They also won first place in the 4x400 relay at 4:03.14, and the 1600-meter sprint medley relay at 3:39.38.
Niki Porinchok won first in boys’ shot put, throwing 43-feet, 0.5-inches. He also won first in the discus, throwing 146 feet, 10 inches. Tanner Hughes was 10th in shot put with a distance of 33 feet, 4.5 inches and seventh in discus at 99 feet 7 inches.
Priest River also took five spots in the top 10 for javelin with Ryan Bell in first place at 128 feet. Carter Cook won first place in high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches. Ian Lamanna won first in pole vaulting at 11 feet 6 inches, followed by Pettit in second at 10 feet.
Korff won second in long jump at 19 feet 5 inches. Luccas Simcox was third at 19 feet 2 inches.
Freshman David Harbison won seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 19.01 and 10th in the 300-meter hurdles at 53.68.
For the girls, Lizzie McCracken won first in the 800-meter with a time of 2:31.34. Ashlyn Korff took third in the 200-meter at 29.70. She also won third in the long jump at 13 feet, 1 inch. The girls’ 4x100 relay team won first in that race with a time of 55.66.
Chase Smith won first in the javelin, throwing 102 feet. Haley Braae was third at 67 feet, 3 inches. Trinity Meyers won fourth in girls’ shot put at 22 feet, 4.5 inches. Averii Meek was sixth at 20 feet, 9 inches. For pole vaulting, Jasmine Stark won second at 7 feet, 6 inches.
Earlier last week Priest River attended the Christina Finney Relays in Post Falls on Tuesday, April 15.
Brayden Lamanna won first place in the 1600-meter at 4:27.85.
Ryan Bell was third in javelin, throwing 135 feet, 6 inches. Ian Lamanna was second in pole vault at 12 feet.
Luccas Simcox won second place in long jump at 20 feet, 3 inches.
Chase Smith won second for the girls’ javelin at 105 feet 1 inch.
