Idahoans go to polls May 21

SANDPOINT – Tuesday, May 21, is the Idaho Primary Election Day, a day when many races in the majority Republican state are decided.

In contrast to Washington, in Idaho the top vote getter in each party advances to the general election in November, so there will be Democrats and Republicans on the November ballot.

The Republican contenders for the District 1 seat on the county commission are James Burroughs, Brian Domke and Rian Riley. Steve Bradshaw held the position but is running for sheriff and not for commissioner.

Republicans running for District 3 county commissioner is Dimitry Borisov, Ron Korn and incumbent Luke Omodt.

Running for Bonner County Sheriff is incumbent Daryl Wheeler and Steve Bradshaw. Both are running as Republicans.

The West Bonner County School District will have its one year, $4.64 million election on the ballot. (See related story) There are a number of state legislator positions on the ballot.

The state senate seat currently held by Scott Herndon is attracting a lot of attention. Jim Woodward is running against him. The race is a rematch. Herndon beat Woodward in the previous election. Both are running as Republicans.

There are three Republicans running for the position A in the state House of Representatives. The incumbent is Mark Sauter. He will face Jane Sauter (not related) and Spencer Hutchings.

Two Republicans are running for Position B in the state House of Representatives, Charles “Chuck” Lowman and Cornel Rasor.
