Chamber announces interim president

NEWPORT - After four years of leading the Greater Newport Area Chamber of Commerce, Board President and Roxy Theatre owner, Jason Totland, is stepping down.

“It has been my honor to serve our community in this capacity,” Totland said. “I am proud of all that we have achieved together as a business community, and I am excited to see the chamber continue to grow and thrive under the new leadership.”

The board unanimously voted to appoint Jake Abbott, owner of Ruby Creek Resort and cochair of the chamber’s 2024 Gala Committee, as Interim President until officer elections are held in November.

Abbott’s background in the nonprofit sector, most recently as the Executive Director for the American Heart Association’s Idaho Division, demonstrates his commitment to making a positive impact.

He expressed his enthusiasm for the interim president role. “I’ve always been driven to public service and creating a ripple effect,” he said in a news release. “Whether it’s helping small businesses thrive, advocating for educational opportunities, or fundraising for worthy causes, I’m dedicated to making a difference.”

Abbott went on to says he honored by the job.

“I’m honored to serve as interim president and to collaborate with local businesses to propel the Greater Newport area forward. Our collective efforts will ensure this idyllic place remains a vibrant community where people love to live, work, and play,” he says.

The chamber recently posted an online survey to provide a way for interested individuals to contribute their skills to one of the chamber’s committees, including marketing, events and government affairs. The survey is available on the chamber’s Facebook page at www.facebook. com/newportareachamber.

The next Greater Newport Area Chamber of Commerce meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, 6 p.m. at Frontier Title & Escrow Company, 125 S. Washington Ave., Newport.
