Celebrate surviving caner June 2
NEWPORT - The free National Cancer Survivor Day Luncheon will be held Sunday, June 2, at 1 p.m. at the Hospitality House in Newport. All cancer survivors are invited to bring a friend as the Pend Oreille Valley Relay for Life celebrates life with giveaways and door prizes.
Information about the Relay for Life event, set for Aug. 9-10, will be presented. Relay for Life is a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Please call Katie at 509-671-1752 for mor information.
Veteran Stand Down volunteers to meet
NEWPORT - There will be a meeting for all persons planning on volunteering for this year’s Veteran Stand Down at the Hospitality House 216 South Washington in Newport on Thursday, June 6 from 10 a.m. to noon. For questions please call 509-671-3585.
Drive through offers free food
NEWPORT – The American Lutheran Church, at 332801 Highway 2 in Newport, is offering a free mobile market food drive thru for up to 250 families while supplies last on Wednesday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment or documentation required.
The mobile market provided 10,266 meals to 254 families and 23 people donated their time distributing the food providing 69 volunteer hours.
West Bonner holding meet and greet for superintendent candidates
PRIEST RIVER – The West Bonner County School District has narrowed the hunt for a new superintendent to two men: Dr. Robbie Swint Jr., and Kim Spacek.
Spacek was most recently superintendent of the Mountain View School District in Grangeville, Idaho. He worked from 2013-2023 as superintendent of the Inchelium School District in Inchelium, Washington.
Swint works in supervisory training management for the Department of Defense in Fort Meade, Maryland. From 2021-2022 he was superintendent of the Unalaska City School District in Unalaska, Alaska.
The public will have a chance to meet the two Monday, June 3, at Priest River Lamanna High School, from 6-8 p.m.
The board will interview the men individually the next day, June 4.
