Lime scooters on the chopping block
NEWPORT – The Newport City Council unanimously agreed to have Lime remove their e-scooters from city streets at their council meeting June 3.
City Administrator Abbi Gribi stated she heard no word from the company requiring them to establish a contract with the city permitting them to remain by a deadline of May 22.
Lime scooters are a contested issue with many business owners and other members of the public against their use due to blocking sidewalks and streets.
Newport was also concerned with liability issues with the e-scooters if a rider accidentally fell off or hit something.
According to city council minutes, if there was blowback, the city would refer to the city attorney.
