Priest River 50-year reunion at Hill’s Resort

PRIEST RIVER – Priest River High School’s Class of 1974 will host its 50th year class reunion at Hill’s Resort at Priest Lake Saturday, July 27.

Fun at the beach is from 1-5 p.m., prime rib buffet at 6 p.m. with acoustic music from 6-9 p.m.

DSHS at Cusick July 9

CUSICK – State workers will be at the Cusick Food Pantry Tuesday, July 9, from 8 a.m. to noon to assist people with applying for state aid and food stamps. Last week’s front page brief had a different date.

Joyce Beach, director of the Cusick Food Pantry, said it was suggested she call the state Department of Social and Health Services for help, as many of the people using the Cusick Food Bank had not applied for food stamps.

The Cusick Food Pantry is located at the Pend Oreille Bible Church at 402 Riverside Road in Cusick.

Fire marshal urges fireworks safety

OLYMPIA - Many families look forward to gathering and celebrating the 4th of July. Due to the dangers of fireworks, the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office urge people to celebrate safely this holiday.

In 2023, fire incidents from fireworks resulted in more than $12 million in of property damage in Washington state. Children under 15 made up 22.7% of reported fireworks injuries.

When possible, it is best to choose to view fireworks at a public display. If you do set off fireworks at home, please follow these suggestions to stay safe: Only use legal fireworks. Have a bucket or hose nearby. Supervise children around fireworks. Get rid of defective fireworks properly. If you have a defective firework, soak in water overnight, drain off water, tie it up in a garbage bag, and throw it in the trash.

Do not consume alcohol while using fireworks. Safely dispose of fireworks by soaking them in water after use.

Keep fireworks and sparklers away from your body. Sparklers can reach up to the temperature of 2000°.
