Learn about noxious weeds at aquatic life, property management workshop

Learn about noxious weeds at aquatic life, property management workshop

Free lunch for in-person participants if registered by July 1

NEWPORT – Enjoying basking in the sun on the lake or river this season?

Imagine a boat or swimmer getting stuck because of thick noxious aquatic weeds – it has happened upstream.

Maintaining healthy and enjoyable waters in Pend Oreille County requires community involvement.

The Aquatic Life & Property Management Workshop helps aquatic stakeholders identify the resources available to help manage aquatic weeds. Pesticide license holders in Washington and Idaho can also earn 2-5 credits toward license recertification.

Enjoy free sessions led by industry experts on shoreline health, beach improvements and permitting, plant identification and removal, boat and equipment decontamination, and the impacts of invasive species like Flowering Rush, Eurasian Milfoil and Northern Pike.

Network and ask questions to speakers from Pend Oreille Public Utility District, Pend Oreille Conservation District, Pend Oreille County Community Development, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Department of Ecology and the Pend Oreille County Weed Board.

The workshop will be held on Friday, July 12, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Camas Center for Community Wellness. Lunch is provided at no cost to in-person participants (if registered before July 1), but sessions are also offered via Zoom.

Register online at www. pendoreille.gov/weedboard/ page/2024-aquatic workshop-registration.

The Pend Oreille County Weed Board would not be able to offer free workshops without the contributions of partners and sponsors including Pend Oreille Public Utility District, Pend Oreille Conservation District, Washington State Department of Ecology, Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, Tiger Inlet League, Aquatic Weed Solutions, Aquatic Harvesters, Selkirk ACE Hardware, The Newport Roxy Theater and Northwest Coffee. They’re still looking for more door prizes or cash donations. For questions or if your business would like to contribute to this event, email noxweedinfo@ pendoreille.org or call 509-447-2402.
