Kalispel Tribe celebrates 2024 Summer Slam

CUSICK – Summer Slam, the only three-on-three basketball tournament held in Pend Oreille County, concluded Sunday, June 23 at the Kalispel Casino in Usk.

“The Kalispel Tribe hosts this annual tournament to provide a positive, drugfree, and violence-free event, and we are grateful for the community turnout and support,” said Mark Zorica, spokesman for the Kalispel Tribe.

Colville Peak, the youth drum group that shared a song during the opening ceremony, was appreciated, Zorica said. There were several university basketball players that attended as distinguished guests. Ben Gregg from Gonzaga University, Tyson Degenhart from Boise State University and Jamie Loera and Ellie Bonie from Eastern Washington University are college players who came to support the event.

The 2024 Summer Slam Champions were: 8U – Dribblin Dragons 10U Girls – Lady Lions 10U Boys – Lil Grizzlies 12U Girls – Iron Squad 12U Boys – Project Buckets 14U Girls – Hoop Stars 14U Boys – Jaayboy Elite HS Boys – Punch Made Coed Open – Regulators Men’s Open – NW Warriors This year’s event sponsors include the Kalispel Tribe of Indians, Northern Quest Resort and Casino, Kalispel Casino, Kalispel Tribal Court, Camas Path, Innovia Foundation, Pepsi, Condron Homes, Garco Construction and Country Lane, Inc.
