Cusick power outage Wednesday

NEWPORT – There will be a power outage Wednesday night, July 10, in Cusick, near the Cusick substation, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

“It should only affect about 10-20 people,” Pend Oreille Utility District General Manager John Janney said. He said the PUD has contacted most of the people affected. The power will be off for maintenance, he said.

Tuesday night, July 8, the PUD had a bigger planned outage that affected about 1,000 people, he said. It was also for maintenance.

Bridge work closes Highway 31 north of Metaline Falls

METALINE FALLS – Travelers who use Highway 31 to cross Slate Creek six miles north of Metaline Falls should plan additional travel time to avoid delays as maintenance crews for the Washington State Department of Transportation make repairs to the bridge pier caps and expansion joints for the next two weeks.

The bridge will be reduced to a single lane beginning Monday, July 8 until Friday, July 12, and Monday, July 15 until Friday July 19. Work both weeks will occur between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. During this time, travelers can expect one-way alternating traffic via traffic signal.

In addition to the lane closure, vehicles wider than 8 feet 6 inches will be restricted during working hours the week of July 8.

Chip seal to bring lane closure to Highway 20 north of Newport

CUSICK – Travelers who use both directions of Highway 20 north of Newport should plan additional travel time as maintenance crews for the Washington State Department of Transportation chip seal wheel ruts along a 1-mile stretch of the highway.

Crews will be working in the southbound lane of Highway 20 between Tacoma Creek Road (milepost 413) and just south of Usk (milepost 423) beginning on Monday, July 8 until Friday, July 12, and Monday July 15 until Thursday July 18. Work both weeks will occur between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., weather dependent. During this time, travelers can expect one-way alternating traffic via pilot car with delays lasting up to 15 minutes.

Selkirk school board meeting now July 29

IONE – The next meeting for the Selkirk School District board has been changed. The Meeting will take place Monday, July 29, at 6 p.m. at the Selkirk High School Music room. The meeting was originally set for July 22.
