SACHEEN LAKE – Despite a rollercoaster ride in temperature, weather statistics for June came in close to average, says Bob Lutz, local weather watcher.
The overall pattern was very fluid, providing a variety of weather conditions which included some unusually cold overnight lows for June standards, making for a tricky start to the growing season, Lutz writes on his monthly update.
The average low temperature was 42.7 degrees Fahrenheit, with the lowest temperature occurring June 16, when it was 32 degrees.
The month’s high at Lutz’s station near Sacheen Lake was 86 degrees June 8. There were 12 days in June where the highs were 80 or above.
Lutz, who runs the Climate Hawk website, counts 11 days when there was precipitation, which he measured at 2.58 inches.
He says that’s slightly higher than usual.
For the year to date, Lutz says there has been 18.25 inches of total rain and snow.
Lutz says unlike the last couple years, there was little in the way of thunderstorms, about an average amount.
“Most storms were accompanied by plenty of rainfall and as a result, there were no local lightning related wildfires reported,” Lutz says.
