METALINE FALLS – Grants, the Affair on Fourth Street and Riverview Park parking were among the topics taken up by the Metaline Falls Town Council at its regular meeting Tuesday, July 9.
Maintenance Director Neil Bennett reported on fireworks at Busta Park and the heavy rainstorm that caused some erosion along the new gravel drive at Riverview Park.
During council reports, discussion focused on parking access at the Riverview Park. Councilors thought it may be prudent to allow parking in the area, according to Mayor Tara Leininger, but that for now it is blocked off because of water damage from a recent rainfall. The council will take up the matter later as the park is affected by the new lift station rebuild.
Leininger reported on working with the state Transportation Improvement Board and Sewell Engineering for possible grants with TIB; she expects a report from them soon. She said the state Department of Ecology has awarded Metaline Falls a grant for $36,822 for the stormwater project. Leininger is also working on the policy and procedure workbooks this summer.
The council also held a discussion on a possible code of conduct. Leininger said it was a lively discussion that “demonstrated how this council can debate an issue with decorum and honesty,” she said.
