Pend Oreille County fair features ‘Best of the West’

CUSICK – The Pend Oreille County Fair kicks into high gear this week, with gates opening to the public Thursday, Aug. 15 through Sunday, Aug. 18. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youth ages 6-17 and children 5 and younger get in for free.

The Pend Oreille County Fair Rodeo is Friday and Saturday nights, starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, with fair admission, $5 for children 6-17, and children 5 and under can get into the rodeo for free.

The fair’s theme this year is The Best in the West, and will feature games, live music, exhibits, a car show, lots of food, livestock showing, Horse Western Games and the Animal Market Sale.

Animal showing and fitting will be held throughout fair week. Hand spinning will be going on all week in the Fleece and Fiber Building.

See pages 1B-3B for a full schedule. The official opening of the fair is at noon Thursday, following a flag ceremony and National Anthem at 11:45 a.m.

Music in the park will be by Tommy Petrie Thursday, at 6 p.m.

On Friday, the dog show is at 9 a.m. followed by a Rooster Crowing Contest at 9:30 a.m. Face painting is from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Demonstrations will be held in Hupp Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Wildlife Wendy and her tropical birds will be on site at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and demonstrations will be shown in the 4-H Exhibit building from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

A family concert is Friday night, from 9-11 p.m., featuring Dave King.

Conrad the Chainsaw Artist is performing from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Horse Western Games are from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Demonstrations will continue in Hupp Hall and face painting is from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

A car show is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Market Animal Sale is Saturday at 3 p.m.

Wildlife Wendy and her tropical birds will have shows at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The family concert with dancing continues Saturday, from 9-11 p.m. with Dave King.

Sunday, events wrap up with awards and kids games in the livestock arena, inspirational music, a goat obstacle course, and a horse parade of champions at noon in the Rodeo Arena.
