Newport child screening Sept. 4
NEWPORT – A free preschool screening to any child 3-5 years old, residing in the Newport School District will be held Wednesday, Sept. 4.
The following areas will be screened: cognitive (thinking and pre-academic skills), communication (speech and language), fine motor (writing, drawing, cutting, visual-motor), gross motor (balance, throwing, kicking), vision and hearing.
By identifying a child’s special needs at an early age, the district hopes to provide the child a better opportunity to reach his or her full learning potential. The district provides a variety of special programs for children in our schools aged 3-21. The schools offer special programs such as Title IV, LAP and special education academic programs; speech, physical and occupational therapies; and preschool classes to children 3 years and older who qualify for special education.
If you have a preschooler you would like to schedule to have screened or if you would like more information about the services available to you, please contact Keri Leslie at 447-3167 ext. 4507 or email lesliekeri@newportgriz. com.
