Albert Martin Hettinger, 88, of Usk Washington, passed away on June 12th, 2024, after a long-fulfilled life.

Albert was born on May 18th, 1936, to Rosie and George Hettinger in Orofino Idaho. Albert was the oldest of 10 children. During his childhood, Albert moved around the inland northwest with his family. When his father George was drafted into World War 2 and stationed in Germany, Albert made sure to support his mother and siblings during his father’s military service. From that and many other experiences he learned at an early age the value of family. During his early adult life, he worked with his father/business partner in the woods as a logger and in their sawmill. After Albert married the love of his life Frances Cline in 1958, he went on to be drafted into the Army. He went to Fort Sam, Houston in Texas for basic training, and he was stationed in Fort MacArthur, California. Where he served as a Medical Specialist.

After his service Albert and Frances settled in Pend Oreille County where they went on to have 4 children. Rhonda Kay, Sue Ellen, Randy Albert and Roxanne Ramona. Albert worked in the lumber industry for many years. After retiring from Diamond Lumber Company. He was self-employed as a hunting guide and pack outfit operator. He also owned his own saddle and repair shop known locally as 'Al’s Saddle and Harness Repair”. He ended his working career as a security guard at Naco West on Little Diamond Lake. During his time in Newport, he was a member of Pend Oreille Mounted Sheriff’s Posse from 1979-1999. Albert also enjoyed being a part of the local rodeo volunteer group. Albert was a member of the American Legion Post 217 located in Cusick Washington for the last 19 years.

Throughout Albert’s long fulfilling life, he loved to spend his time hunting, fishing, and most of all spending time with his loving family.

Albert was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Frances (Cline) Hettinger. Parents Rosie and Geroge Hettinger. Siblings: Helen, Ashley, Donald, Jack, Nadine, Steve, Pauline, and Geraldine. He is survived by his sister Joyce Defrehn of Post Falls Idaho. Children Rhonda Hoover of Spokane Washington, Sue & Mitch Gassner of Vancouver Washington, Randy & Diane Hettinger of Richland Washington, Roxanne & Duane Whitecotton of Bokoshe Oklahoma.

Xiuna Erickson of Anchorage Alaska, Shantel & Ryan Silbernagel of Vancouver Washington, Michael & Henry Ramirez of Alexandria Virginia, Derek & Madison Hettinger of Richland Washington, Dylan Hettinger of Richland Washington, Damon & Anisa Solso of Aurora Colorado. Alex Solso of Richland Washington and Makayla Hoover of Spokane Washington. Great-Grandchildren Emily, Amelia, Mary, Ruby and Owen. Along with many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Sherman-Campbell Funeral Home in Newport Washington on June 18, 2024, at 10:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Spokane WA at 2:30 PM. A celebration of life will be held in Cusick WA at the American Legion starting at 5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Legion Post 217, an organization Albert felt strongly about.
