Lorna Louise Larson was born on August 19, 1937, in Ione Washington to Virgina and Dick Sumpter. Lorna joined sisters Clara and Cora. As a child, she attended the Tiger and Ione Schools. Her dad got a job at Lehigh Cement Co., and they moved to Lehigh Hill in Metaline Falls where she attended school and first met John – her lifelong partner and husband of 70 years.
John and Lorna were married in 1954 and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on July 18, 2024. During their seven decades of marriage, Lorna was a devoted wife, homemaker and mother to their four children – Craig, Rick, Rhonda and Claudia. She enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
Lorna and John lived most of their lives together at their beloved home near Sullivan Lake where they took daily walks regardless of weather. She loved the beauty of North Pend Oreille County. Lorna enjoyed a lifetime of camping, traveling, snowmobiling, and spending time together with family. Lorna loved her houseplants and gardening.
Lorna is survived by her husband of 70 years, John, and her four children – Craig (Becky), Rick (Kim), Rhonda (Pete), Claudia (Andy), and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.
Lorna passed away on Dec. 7 surrounded by her family. She will be greatly missed, but her love for John and Sullivan Lake will carry on through all five generations.
Lorna was laid to rest in a graveside ceremony.
